Learning how to paint is like putting on glasses for the first time. Suddenly, you see things you never noticed before. This ability to "see more" has been the greatest gift of my academic training.

Sensitivity is the key. For artists, it’s everything. The more you notice, the more you can play with. Just as musicians start hearing more subtle sounds, painters begin to see finer nuances of shapes, tonal values and colors.

This heightened awareness is the ultimate reward. It’s always with you. And once you feel it in one area, you can transfer it to other parts of your life.
